loy sydney weissman
is a new york-based writer and theater artist. their work centers primarily on the conception of the self, especially through exploration of gender and sexual identity. both in their life and work, loy uses humor as a coping mechanism, often with a sharp twist.
in their theatrical work, loy aims to invigorate and innovate the conventions of live performance by investigating the collision of theater and drag, finding a mode of performance both within and between the two.
loy earned a BFA with honors in drama from the playwright’s horizons studio at new york university’s tisch school for the arts in june of 2020, graduating into a landscape that was uncertain at best during the COVID-19 pandemic - leading to their decision to pursue a graduate degree. currently, they are working towards an MFA in creative writing from the university of california, riverside, focusing on screenwriting and playwriting, and are excited to see where those forms take them in the future.
loy was born in seattle, washington, and a piece of their heart is still there - explaining their love of rainy weather and artisanal coffee (iced, please). outside of work, loy is an aggressively amateur guitarist, avid shower-singer, and expert omelette chef.
